New Research

I just finished reading an article about an enzyme that may be helpful in preventing or slowing the progress of Parkinson’s disease. The enzyme is called GST pi. It is an enzyme that occurs naturally in the part of the brain that is affected by Parkinson’s (Substantia Nigra). The enzyme works as protection against destruction of dopamine producing neurons. Decreased levels of this enzyme have been noted in Parkinson’s Disease studies of people considered to be at high risk for Parkinson’s and have had exposure to pesticides and/or herbicides. The article was quite interesting. It can be found by clicking on this link – Science Daily: Sentry Enzyme Blocks Two Paths to Parkinson’s Disease.
